The kids had fun fishing, canoeing, petting a hunting falcon, playing with a K-9 dog, practicing archery, and having a picnic with friends.

Learning and uplift
It was a busy week this week. I had the opportunity of being interviewed of a Kansas TV show; the segment was on Preston, I don't know if I will be cut or if I will make it onto the show, hopefully they will keep the parts about the Fabric store. The appraiser looked at our building and we can start tearing it down soon.

A little late
We had a good week. The kids (and Mom and I) had fun at the State Fair. Shane loved the ferris wheel and Hannah wanted to ride every ride there (she enjoyed the few I actualy allowed her to ride).
Thanks to Grandma, both kids have discovered the ewwy gewwy mess and yummy sticky joy of carmel apples. They love them and have decided that the clean up is worth the snack.
And then to top off the week - I painted inside Shane's closet White Stallion withFog of Lodon accent, built a stand alone bookcase inside it and arranged it so that it is now a play space for him. He enjoys easier access to the toys and I enjoy easier cleanup of his room. Now I am working on refinishing a dresser for him.

School/conference
The kids started school this week and love it. Hannah is in Mrs. Scott's first grade class at Haskins and Shane is in Mrs. Gilmore's Kindergarten at Southwest. The are excited to go each morning and come home exhausted each day.
I was able to attend the adult session of stake conference in Wichita today. All the talks centered around making your home a temple. The talks were all good and the spirit was strong. I am greatful that I cound go tonight. Thank you to Mom for watching the kids. The home should be a place of refuge from the world and it's views. The home should be a place where the spirit can dwell, where love can abound, and where each person who enters these doors can have the opportunity to learn more about God and Jesus, who they are, who we are, and who they want us to become. I hope to make my home that place.

I have the best kids in the world
I was sick this week and felt miserable, but the kids took good care of me. Hannah covered me with another blanket everytime she saw me shiver, filled my water everytime I ran out, and did not torment her brother in anyway. Shane periodicaly laid down next to me, ruffled my hair and touched his forehead to my forehead, did not sneak into anything that was not allowed, and did not have any tantrums.
Today the weather was so nice that I could open the windows and let them play outside while I sat on the couch and watched them. They enjoyed several hours of sandbox and pool together with no fights.
Hannah made this keychain with only instructions and undoing a few mistakes from me. I was so pleased with the work she did. She is realy turning into an artist with several mediums.

Preparing for the school year
The kids have only one week until school starts, so this past week we have pulled out every item of clothing, shoes, ect. and tried it all on and cleaned it up. I have keepers, trash, and giveaway piles. They have also spent time with me at work and have spent a lot of time in the yard in their sandbox and swimming pool. I am almost done with painting the Preston Park, two more evenings and it should be done (it will not be this coming week).

wild animals
Today we went to the Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard. The kids loved it, we pet an aligator, birds, horses, girraffs. A kangaroo almost touched Shane! I was a blast. Then off to an icecream social with friends in Wichita all afternoon. It was a long day - a long, enjoyable day.

Summer is nearing an end
Hannah had her last day of summer school today - she enjoyed attending her classes, is looking forward to two more weeks of a break, and can hardly wait to see all her old friends when she starts 1st grade.
Shane is growing up, he was patient and helpfull with his Grandma K. at the store the other day; he picked what he wanted, put it up to pay, walked out to the car, and allowed himself to be buckled in before he asked her to open the candy up for him. He will be in Kindergarten soon and can't wait much longer for it to start.
They have both been spending a good amount of time at work with me and usually do well about letting me work undisturbed - they sit on the office floor and play with a few toys or color.
Me - well, I am older, wider, and happily employed in my small country town. I love being away from a big city, but close enough to visit when I want.

Just starting out
My little sis. inspired me to start doing this. I write letters and never mail them off, so no one knows what is happening in the lives of my monsters. I hope my friends and family enjoy!
